LATERAL TRANSFERS

The Akron Police Department is hiring certified police officers to join our team as lateral transfers. The process is quick and easy, and there is no written or physical fitness test for certified officers.

APD OFFERS MANY BENEFITS TO LATERAL TRANSFERS

  • Starting pay between $31.53/hr and $36.83/hr depending on years of experience.

SCHEDULE

Patrol officers work four – 10 hour shifts with every other weekend off. You will never be required to work more than three days straight. Your shifts and days off are fixed (with the exception of civil unrest, special events, and training). New patrol officers will be assigned to one of two night shifts. (4pm to 2am or 9pm to 7am)

ABBREVIATED FAST TRACK ACADEMY

Lateral transfers are not required to complete a full academy. We offer an abbreviated 6 week fast track academy geared towards helping you acclimate to working in the City of Akron. You will receive additional training in firearms, driving, and defensive tactics to ensure that you meet all Akron Police Department standards.

OFF DUTY EXTRA JOBS

After completing your probationary period, you will become eligible to work off duty extra jobs. The current rate for extra jobs is $40 to $50 per hour.

EXCEPTIONAL RETIREMENT PLAN

APD’s benefit retirement/pension plan, allows members to receive a full retirement pension after 25 years of APD service, an annuity payment of 62.5% of the average of their highest five consecutive years base pay. The maximum annuity payment is 80% of the highest average pay.
