Our agency has more than 446 sworn police officers and 37 civilian staff serving nearly 200,000 residents. We are the second largest law enforcement agency in Northeast Ohio and home to one of the most diverse cities in the State of Ohio.

PATROL SCHEDULE

The Patrol Division is the backbone of our agency.  Patrol officers work four 10 hour shifts with every other weekend off. You will never be required to work more than three days straight. Your shifts and days off are fixed (with the exception of civil unrest, special events, and training). New patrol officers will be assigned to one of two night shifts. (4pm to 2am or 9pm to 7am). 

SHIFT DIFFERENTIAL PAY

Officers assigned to night shifts (4pm to 2am or 9pm to 7am) earn an additional 1.5% of their base wage rate for all hours worked during those shifts.

OFF DUTY EXTRA JOBS

After completing your probationary period, you will become eligible to work off duty extra jobs. The current rate for extra jobs is $52.50 to $62.50 per hour.

 

EXCEPTIONAL RETIREMENT PLAN

APD’s benefit retirement/pension plan, allows members to receive a full retirement pension after 25 years of APD service, an annuity payment of 62.5% of the average of their highest five consecutive years base pay. The maximum annuity payment is 80% of the highest average pay.
